Historical Note

The SIAI Marchetti SF-260 represents one of the most successful and enduring military trainer aircraft designs in aviation history. Originally conceived by renowned Italian aircraft designer Stelio Frati in the late 1950s as the F.250, the design was refined and put into production by SIAI Marchetti (later Aermacchi) as the SF-260 in 1964. Powered by a Lycoming O-540 piston engine producing 260 horsepower, the SF-260 featured all-metal construction, retractable tricycle landing gear, and tandem seating under a bubble canopy that provided excellent visibility.
