About the Aircraft
The P.166 inherited its cranked gull wing from the P.136 amphibian. The wing raises the pusher engine nacelles for propeller clearance while keeping the cabin close to the ground for easy loading. Early aircraft used two Lycoming GSO-480 geared, supercharged piston engines (340 hp each). The P.166-DL3 moved to Avco Lycoming LTP101-600 turboprops (600 shp each), and the later P.166-DP1 uses Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-121 turboprops (615 shp each).

- Aerodynamics: the pusher layout keeps propeller slipstream off the wing's upper surface. Wingspan is about 14.25–14.69 m depending on variant, with a wing area of 26.56 m².
- Handling: the tailplane sits clear of the engine exhaust path, and the engines are mounted close to the centreline, which limits yaw after a single-engine failure.
- DP1 performance reference: max cruise approx. 220 kt (407 km/h), service ceiling approx. 28,000 ft, range approx. 1,100 nm.
