✈️ Historical Note
The Junkers Ju 52/3m, known as "Tante Ju" (Auntie Ju) or "Iron Annie," stands as one of aviation history's most distinguished transport aircraft. First flown in 1930 as a single-engine design (Ju 52/1m), the aircraft achieved legendary status with its tri-motor configuration introduced in 1932.
During the 1930s and throughout World War II, the Ju 52/3m served as the backbone of Luftwaffe transport operations, evacuating wounded soldiers, delivering supplies to frontline troops, and conducting airborne operations across every theater of war. Its distinctive corrugated duralumin skin, robust construction, and reliability made it indispensable for military logistics. The aircraft participated in operations including the invasion of Crete, the siege of Stalingrad, and supply missions across North Africa, the Eastern Front, and the Mediterranean.
Beyond military service, the Ju 52/3m operated as a civilian airliner with Deutsche Lufthansa and airlines worldwide, pioneering commercial air routes across Europe, South America, and Africa. Its spacious cabin accommodated 17 passengers, making it a workhorse of early commercial aviation.
Post-war, the Ju 52/3m continued flying with airlines and air forces globally well into the 1980s. With over 4,800 aircraft produced between 1932 and 1952, several airworthy examples still fly today at airshows and nostalgic flights.
These original technical manuals represent authentic documentation used by Luftwaffe mechanics, Deutsche Lufthansa engineers, and civilian operators throughout the aircraft's service life. They provide reference material for restorers working on surviving aircraft, historians researching wartime logistics, modelers seeking technical details, and aviation enthusiasts studying this design.
