Grumman Gulfstream I (G-159) — Maintenance Manuals & Illustrated Parts Catalog Collection

The Grumman Gulfstream I (Model G-159), which first flew on 14 August 1958, was the pioneer of dedicated corporate turboprop aviation. Developed by Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation and later supported by Grumman American Aviation Corporation and Gulfstream American Corporation (both headquartered in Savannah, Georgia), the G-159 established the engineering and ergonomic template that would define the entire Gulfstream lineage through the GIV and GV generations.

This archival collection assembles the primary factory maintenance and parts documentation for the G-159, spanning two major revision cycles from 1978 to 1979.


1. Airframe & Aerodynamic Configuration

  • Configuration: Low-wing cantilever monoplane — semi-monocoque aluminium alloy construction
  • Fuselage: Highly streamlined cross-section optimised for low drag coefficient and cruise efficiency — the exact geometry that informed later Gulfstream business jet designs

2. Powerplant — Rolls-Royce Dart Mk. 529

  • Engine Type: 2× Rolls-Royce Dart Mk. 529-8X (or 8E) turboprop engines
  • Power Output: 1,990 to 2,190 shaft horsepower (shp) per engine
  • Propeller: Four-bladed, constant-speed, fully feathering Rotol propellers
  • Nacelle Design: Ring-shaped nose air intake with distinctive lower aerodynamic bulge housing the retracted main landing gear

3. Handling & Stability

  • Low-Speed Handling: High aspect-ratio wing planform ensures responsive lateral and longitudinal control at slow speeds
  • Landing Gear: Rugged tricycle configuration with twin wheels on both main struts and nose unit — excellent ground handling stability and high crosswind limits
  • Single-Engine Climb: 560 ft/min inoperative climb capability — robust rudder authority under asymmetric thrust conditions

  • MTOW: 35,100 lb (up to 36,000 lb for the stretched G-159C)
