CASA C-207 Azor — Primary-Source Documentation Collection

The CASA C-207 Azor (Spanish Air Force designation T.7) was the most ambitious transport aircraft produced by Construcciones Aeronáuticas S.A. in the postwar decade — a low-wing, all-metal, twin-engine airliner and military transport that represented the peak of Spanish indigenous aerospace engineering in the 1950s. Powered by two imported British Bristol Hercules 730 14-cylinder sleeve-valve radial engines, each delivering 2,040 hp at takeoff, the Azor offered a performance envelope and structural integrity that no Spanish-built powerplant of the era could match.

Only 22 airframes were completed — including two prototypes — making primary-source documentation for this type exceptionally rare. Historical Note

The Azor entered service in the mid-1950s as a direct scaled-up successor to the CASA C-202 Halcón. The absence of cabin pressurization limited commercial airline interest, directing all production to military service. A 1958 collaborative study with Hamburger Flugzeugbau (HFB) proposed turboprop re-engining, but the programme was abandoned in favour of what would eventually become the CASA C-212 Aviocar. Original engineering archives are preserved within the Ejército del Aire historical archive and the Airbus Getafe facility collections (successor to CASA via EADS).
