Aircraft Technical Overview

Aerodynamic & Hull Characteristics

The Be-200 is a high-wing, T-tail monoplane optimized for severe maritime environments. Its single-step hull features a high length-to-beam ratio for hydrodynamic stability. Wings are swept back at 23° chord angle; engines are mounted high over the wing roots to eliminate water spray ingestion during high-speed water taxi and aquaplaning. Underwing stabilizer floats and a water rudder provide low-speed maneuvering on open water.

Powerplant — Progress D-436TP

  • Two top-mounted turbofan engines
  • Maximum takeoff thrust: 75.02 kN (16,534 lbf) per engine
  • Specific fuel consumption: 0.608 kg/kgf·h (ISA standard conditions)
  • Autonomous TA-12-60 APU for electrical power and climate control independent of main engines
  • Corrosion-protection treatments, titanium fittings, and composite structures for saltwater endurance

Seaworthiness & Water Handling

  • Certified for takeoff and landing in wave heights up to 1.2 m (Sea State 3)
  • Minimum water depth required: 2.6 m
  • Fire-suppression scooping: 12,000 litres (12 metric tons) in 12–14 seconds at 90–95% of takeoff speed
  • Advanced tank venting systems manage hydrodynamic pressure loads during scooping

Avionics — ARIA-200M

Integrated flight-navigation system with open-architecture glass cockpit. ScioTeq multi-function LCD displays maintain positional awareness through heavy smoke. Originally certified under Russian AP-25 standards; EASA-specific conditions (CRI extracts covering landing gear alerts and liquid carriage systems) underpin western certification efforts.
