The F-4F Phantom II was the Luftwaffe's frontline air superiority fighter for over three decades — a purpose-built, lightweight variant of the F-4E developed exclusively for West Germany, stripped of the internal fuel cell and target identification system to save 3,300 lbs, fitted with maneuvering slats for superior high-AOA tracking, and later upgraded under the ICE program with APG-65 digital radar and AIM-120 AMRAAM capability.
