Historical Note
The Klemm Kl 35 represents the pinnacle of German light aircraft design in the 1930s. Designed by Hanns Klemm and first flown in 1935, this graceful low-wing monoplane combined modern aerodynamics with traditional craftsmanship. The aircraft featured an elegant elliptical wing planform, streamlined fuselage, and excellent performance that made it popular with private pilots and flying clubs.
The Kl 35 was built with a wooden wing structure covered in plywood and fabric, a welded steel tube fuselage with fabric covering, and powered by various inline engines ranging from 80 to 160 hp. Its clean design, docile handling, and economical operation made it ideal for touring, training, and sport flying.
Production began in 1935 and continued until 1943, with aircraft built in Germany and under license in Sweden (as the Sk 15) and the UK. The type served with the Luftwaffe as a liaison and training aircraft, and with civilian flying schools throughout Europe. Several examples remain airworthy today, treasured for their beautiful lines and pleasant flying characteristics.
The Kl 35 exemplifies the high standards of German light aircraft engineering in the pre-war era, when attention to detail, quality materials, and elegant design were paramount. These blueprints document that craftsmanship and engineering philosophy.
