Historical Background
Designed by Junkers Motorenbau GmbH and evolved from the Jumo 204, the Jumo 205 was the definitive opposed-piston diesel aero engine. Its key variants:
- Jumo 205C — Early main production model, 600 hp
- Jumo 205D — Military version optimized for higher RPM, 880 hp
- Jumo 205E — Civil version, 700 hp
- Jumo 207 — High-altitude variant with turbo-supercharger, up to 1,000 hp
Post-war, its opposed-piston design directly inspired the British Napier Deltic engine used in Royal Navy fast patrol boats and British Rail locomotives.
