The Fiat R.S.14 (Ricognitore Stiavelli 14) was Italy’s principal long-range maritime strategic reconnaissance seaplane of the Second World War. - Propellers: Three-blade metal variable-pitch. Early prototypes evaluated counter-rotating propellers to cancel structural torque during calm-water takeoff runs.
- Nacelle Sub-systems: Engineering bulletins dictated that remote-controlled defensive weapon stations could be nested directly into the rear profiles of the engine nacelles.

- Hydrodynamic Instability: Severe challenges in rough sea states — structural instability when confronting heavy waves made open-sea rescue deployments hazardous.
- Structural Weakness: Float struts and vertical mounting assemblies proved fragile under repeated hard water landings, causing structural warping. A two-year modification period was required before frontline clearance.
