Engineering Bulletins & Structural Evolution

  • XP-37 / YP-37 — Allison V-1710 Inline Experiment: Engineering bulletins ordered modification of a P-36 airframe to house the liquid-cooled, turbo-supercharged Allison V-1710. The cockpit was relocated aft to maintain CG balance. Turbocharger unreliability halted production, but the programme directly paved the way for the P-40 Warhawk.
  • XP-36D through F — Armament Configurations: Technical revisions documented the expansion from two cowl guns to the XP-36E (six .30-calibre machine guns) and the XP-36F, which field-tested twin wing-mounted 23mm Madsen automatic cannons.
