Collection scope
A focused digital archive for the Compagnia Nazionale Aeronautica (CNA) D4, also designated D.IV, the Italian 60 hp flat-four developed for the Avia FL.3 trainer. It brings together period engine documentation for aviation historians, restorers, museum researchers and enthusiasts studying Italian light aviation and wartime training aircraft.

- First introduction: 1940
- Manufacturer: Compagnia Nazionale Aeronautica (CNA), Italy
- Design background: Designed by Ing. Gianini at the request of pilot and constructor Francis Lombardi as an affordable domestic alternative to the foreign Walter Persy engine for the L.3, better known as the Avia FL.3.
- Applications: Avia FL.3 military primary trainers, including service with the Regia Aeronautica and Luftwaffe, plus civilian touring and aero-club aircraft.
- Production: Approximately 1940–1951, with several hundred engines reported and an initial order of 100 units associated with the FL.3 production run.
- Variants: Standard CNA D4/D.IV, with minor internal casting differences reported between pre-war and post-war batches.
- Heritage: A historically important powerplant for Italian primary flight training and post-war civilian aviation reconstruction. Surviving examples are museum or static-display items, including examples associated with the National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci in Milan and Museo Nicolis.
