Aircraft Technical Overview
The Airbus (EADS CASA) C-295M is an aerodynamically optimized stretch derivative of the CASA/IPTN CN-235, engineered for tactical airlift, STOL operations from semi-prepared surfaces, and multi-role military transport missions.
Aerodynamic Architecture
High-wing configuration with high-aspect-ratio straight wing optimized for high lift at low flight envelopes (110–130 knots). Modern C-295W/MW variants integrate winglets to suppress wingtip vortices and reduce induced drag. Primary flight controls are mechanical — low weight, simplified hydraulic infrastructure, no fly-by-wire complexity.
Power Plant
Two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127G turboprop engines, each delivering 1,972 kW (2,645 shp). Hamilton Sundstrand 568F-5 six-bladed composite propellers minimize acoustics and cabin vibration while maximizing low-speed thrust. The left engine features an integrated propeller brake enabling APU-mode ground operation without external ground support equipment.
Handling & Stability
Certified to military airworthiness standards and EASA CS-25. Stable flight profiles from deck level to 30,000 ft service ceiling. Validated 30-knot crosswind threshold. Extended fuselage moment arm delivers strong yaw stability and directional control under asymmetric thrust (engine-out above V₁).
