The Aeronca L-3 Grasshopper holds a distinguished place in aviation history as one of the most successful liaison and observation aircraft of World War II. Developed from the civilian Aeronca Model 65 Defender, the L-3 was militarized in 1941 as America prepared for war. The aircraft made its military debut following the attack on Pearl Harbor and quickly proved its worth in every theater of operation.

During WWII, the L-3 served with exceptional versatility across North Africa, Europe, the Pacific, and the China-Burma-India theater. These nimble aircraft performed critical reconnaissance missions, artillery spotting, courier duties, medical evacuation, and liaison work between ground units and headquarters.
